EMRA Mallory Park 21st September 2003
So, back I came with a more tuned bike.
Was the one and only meeting where I went with only June to support me.
After what seemed an age, we managed to get the new awning up (it collapsing on June at one point) amd retired to the local B&B.
Next day we returned. to do usual F400, Open 1300 and Novice race.
In the first F400 I was cut across by Jim Clowes on his RD350 at the hairpin leaving me 2 options.. either T bone him (which in retrosect I wish I had!) or lean bike onto inner banking.. I did the latter but alas crashed at walking pace in the process, snaping the rear brake lever. I was livid but luckily had a spare.
On returning to paddock it was nice to meet a couple of the guys rom the UKRS club who had turned out to spectate (woohoo, groupies!). They took the photos below.. thanks lads.
Next outing out I was having a brilliant 1 - 2 around Gerrards and into Edwinas when I heard the strange sound of squealing. I looked to the left to see the back end of my bike by the side of me !!! then it went to the right!!... Oooops! I managed to put front lever on and come to a stop into the barriers beyond the first left hander into Edwinas, having left a lovely black mark from halfway down the old Stebbe straight. Seems the back brake had seized probably due to more damage than I had realised earlier. I cunningly got round the rest of the races by draining all the brake fluid from the rear brakes !
I ended the day by giving a good account in the Novice race but was upset to only equal my best of 3rd in F400 class (was hoping for a better trophy this time!) Alas, by the time June and I had packed up, everyone else had gone home and I never did get to receive my trophy *sniff*. Shame as it was the last novice race I ever did.
